International Year of Caves and Karst (IYCK – 2021)

The International Year of Caves and Karst (IYCK – 2021) is an initiative of the International Union of Speleology (UIS). The UIS is a non-profit organization, with headquarters in the city of Postojna (Slovenia), dedicated to the exploration, study and adequate management of caves via international cooperation. At present, the UIS is composed of 56 countries, among them Brazil; these countries support the International Year of Caves and Karst, and this is also the theme of the  next Brazilian Congress of Speleology, which will take place in April of 2022 in Brasilia.

The commemoration of the International Year of Caves and Karst has the objective of alerting the society to the importance of protecting these singular landscapes and ecosystems via a series of campaigns of dissemination around the world.
